Ellen Scharaga currently serves as OncoMed's Senior Vice President of Operations, a role she has held since 2009. In this capacity, Ms. Scharaga assists the bio-oncology drug manufacturer and managed care provider by hiring and supervising pharmacy employees, managing inventory, and leading the call center. Among other accomplishments, Ellen Scharaga expanded the staff by 50 percent and significantly decreased the time it takes the company to fill prescriptions, thereby enhancing productivity and putting much-needed medications in the hands of patients sooner. A graduate of St. John's University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy, Ellen Scharaga holds membership in industry groups such as the Pharmaceutical Society of New York, Hematology Oncology Pharmacy Association, and the Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy.
Before joining OncoMed, Ellen Scharaga gained considerable experience at several other firms in New York and New Jersey. As Vice President of Pharmacy for New York City's Group Health Incorporated, she was responsible for business development and led a team of clinicians and operating professionals. She saved the firm more than $25 million by moving a significant prescription drug program to a new pharmacy benefit manager. She also reduced expenses by an additional $10.6 million by redesigning benefit plan aspects such as prior authorization and cost sharing.
Other career highlights include her time as General Manager for National Medical Care. Ellen Scharaga held oversight for all aspects of operations and administration for the firm's New York office, and she additionally led sales efforts for all health maintenance organizations and preferred provider organizations, among other groups. She began her career at a home therapy and pharmacy firm, serving as Clinical Operations Manager.
